Sikkim Adventure Tourism’s representative will receive and greet you on your arrival at NJP/ Bagdogra Airport. Then accompany you to your hotel in Gangtok. It will take almost 4 hrs to cover the 120 Km distance of NJP/Bagdogra to Gangtok. Sikkim’s capital Gangtok is a beautiful hill town. At an altitude of 5,410 ft Gangtok is the tourism centre of Sikkim. In 1840 the construction of Inchey Monastery paved the way for this place to become a Buddhist pilgrimage site. In 1894 the Sikkimese Chogyal (Religious King), Thutob Namgyal shifted the capital of The Kingdom of Sikkim to Gangtok. The journey to Gangtok will mesmerise you with the breathtaking view of alpine valley and daunting hills along with river Teesta. On the way to Gangtok you will have your Lunch. After breakfast your first destination is Kyongnosla falls on the way to Tsomgo Lake commonly known as Chhangu Lake. It is a 2 and half hrs journey towards Tsomgo Lake from Gangtok. Tsomgo Lake is a glacial lake in Sikkim and located at an elevation of 12,313 feet. On your way to Tsomgo Lake you will pass by Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary which is home to rare animals like Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bears and birds like Blood Pheasants. Normally you could spot only few yaks. Tsomgo Lake is filled with water of melting snow coming from the surrounding mountains. This oval shaped lake is 836 meters long and the maximum width is 427 meters. The maximum depth of this lake is 49 ft and the average depth is about 15 ft. During summer and autumn, you will find Primulas and other Alpine vegetation around the lake. During winter the lake becomes frozen. After being mesmerised with the serene beauty of the lake you can awaken your taste buds by trying some Tibetan noodles or continue your journey towards Baba Mandir. Baba Mandir is a shrine made in the honour of an Indian army Captain Harbhajan Singh. He is revered by soldiers of the Indian army as the “Hero of Nathu Laâ€. As with most saints, the Baba is said to also grant favours presumably to those who revere and worship him. After offering your prayer and having lunch start for Gangtok. On day 4 your Grand Sikkim tour begins with a grand journey towards North Sikkim. After breakfast checkout from the hotel and start your journey towards your hotel in Lachen. It is also believed that during 15th century Guru Nanak also visited this place. Please remember to be preparing for breathing problem which may happen because of such high altitude. Situated on the foothill of a snow-capped mountain, locally known as ‘Raja Rani Pahar’ (Mountain of King and Queen), Gurudongmar Lake has left many travellers mesmerised with its celestial beauty. The Yumthang Valley or Sikkim Valley of Flowers sanctuary is a nature sanctuary. With river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on Rolling Meadows surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains it is a place nearer to heaven. Yumthang is situated at an elevation of 11,693 ft. On your way toward Yumthang Valley you will be driving through the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. The best time to visit this sanctuary is from April to June. During this period rhododendrons are in full bloom and the sanctuary turns into a riot of colours. In the winter, Yumthang is hidden beneath the blanket of White Snow and showcases the view of snow clad mountains which add to the ethereal beauty of this place. While returning from Yumthang don’t forget to visit the famous hot spring known for its curative properties. Visit Lachung Monastery once you reach your hotel. Have your breakfast and get ready to explore Gangtok. Your first stop is Banjhakhri Falls and Energy Park. ‘Ban’ means Forest and ‘Jhakhri’ means Shaman. The park is in a thickly forested part of Swastik about 7 km from Gangtok. This is a natural waterfall sourced from springs. Your next stop is Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, World’s renowned institute doing its research on Tibetan language and culture. Rumtek Monastery is the most famous monastery of Kagyu Pa sect of Tibetan Buddhism with grand Tibetan architecture. Golden Stupa is an additional attraction. On the way to Dharma Chakra Centre you will see a huge stupa called Dro-dul Chorten. It was built in 1946 to ward off the evil from that area. From here we will drive you to Hanuman Tok. It is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The place is famous for offering breathtaking view of world’s 3rd highest mountain peak Mt. Kanchenjunga (28,169 ft).
